The Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), represented by the President of the Council of Delegates, Major General Luciano Jos\u00e9 Penna<\/strong>, and the Director of the Inter-American Defense College (CID), Brigadier General James E. Taylor<\/strong>, made a presentation, via videoconference, on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Western Hemisphere for the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the occasion, General Luciano reinforced the commitment of the IADB to the OAS by announcing the main actions of the Armed Forces of the member countries to combat the pandemic and reporting the results of the virtual Conference on military challenges in times of crisis .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, General Taylor emphasized that social detachment in most American countries has reduced deaths. He also reported that the first wave of COVID-19 on the American continent, as a whole, should end by early August. However, he pointed out the possibility that, at the end of October, a second peak of the disease will occur in the countries located in the north of the world, a time when the reduction in temperature is verified in these places. In this sense, he also noted that cyclical waves of the disease may continue to occur until 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
