On October 22, the Delegates of the Member States of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) voted to elect the next President and Vice President of the Council of Delegates and the future Director General of the IADB Secretariat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, the following were chosen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Vice Admiral Alexandre Rabello de Faria<\/strong>, of the Brazilian Navy, for the position of President of the Council of Delegates, from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022, and may be re-elected for one more year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Brigadier General Porfirio Fuentes V\u00e9lez<\/strong>, of the Mexican Army, for the position of General Director of the IADB Secretariat, from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Brigadier General Hu\u00e1scal Dar\u00edo Gonz\u00e1lez Payano<\/strong>, of the Dominican Republic Air Force, for the position of Vice President of the Council of Delegates, from December 1, 2020 to November 30, 2021, with the possibility of being re-elected for one more year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Brigadier General Jorge Ram\u00edrez Z\u00fa\u00f1iga<\/strong>, of the Mexican Army, for the position of Chief of Studies of the Inter-American Defense College, from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also completed the Higher Course on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law at the Graduate School of Human Rights. He has a Law Degree from the University of the Third Age and a Master's Degree in Public Management from the Fluminense Federal University, in Brazil. He was a flight instructor at the San Isidro Air Base, Commander of the Air Transport Squadron, Air Advisor to the National Drug Control Directorate and General Director of the Specialized Fuel Control Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He Brigadier General Jorge Ram\u00edrez Z\u00fa\u00f1iga<\/strong> He graduated from the Military Academy at the Heroico Col\u00e9gio Militar in 1981 as a cadet and graduated as Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1985. He has a degree in Military Administration and a Diploma in General Staff from the Escola Superior de Guerra do M\u00e9xico. He also has a Master's Degree in Military Administration for National Security and Defense from the National Defense College. He was an Instructor at the Higher War School (Mexico) and Academic Coordinator of the National Defense College (Mexico). He directed the Battery of the 5th Artillery Regiment, the 1st Military Police Battalion, directed the Regional Training Center of the 5th Military Region and directed the Military Training Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He Colonel Matthew W. Heim<\/strong> joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, in 1998. He was assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division in Vilseck, Germany, where he served as a tank platoon leader, reconnaissance platoon and executive officer of the 3rd Troop Reconnaissance Brigade. He completed the Special Forces Assessment and Selection course and the Special Forces Qualification Course. He served with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Airborne Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He completed training as a Foreign Area Officer at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, where he completed his training in Spanish and Portuguese. Additionally, he completed a year of training in Quito, Ecuador. He has a master's degree from the University of San Diego and completed the intermediate academic-military part at the Brazilian Army Command and General Staff School (ECEME).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
