On April 26 and 27, Captain Robson de Macedo Nascimento, of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), participated in the III Legal-Operational Seminar on Maritime Anti-Drug Cooperation, organized by the Inter-American Commission for the Control of Drug Abuse. Drugs (CICAD) and the Colombian Navy, which focused on \u201cpromoting the exchange of best practices and tools that help the region strengthen its capabilities to monitor, investigate and detect the movement of illicit drugs, as well as carry out effective interdictions and \u201csafe at sea, based on the joining of efforts and inter-institutional cooperation.\u201d Among the participants were military and civilians from 9 member states of the Organization of American States (OAS) and representatives of CICAD, IADB and the Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, US government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the seminar, the representatives of the Member States present had the opportunity to present the national challenges in the fight against maritime drug trafficking, as well as the role of the Prosecutor's Office against this illicit practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CICAD is a \u201cconsultative and advisory body of the OAS on the issue of drugs. It serves as a forum for OAS Member States to discuss and find solutions to the drug problem, and provides technical assistance to increase their capacity to counter the drug problem. Since its establishment in 1986, CICAD and its Executive Secretariat have responded to the constant and changing challenges of drug control, expanding their efforts to promote regional cooperation and coordination with and among its Member States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
