On July 26, the Inter-American Defense Board received the visit of important members of the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security of the Organization of American States (SSM\/OAS), on the occasion represented by Secretary Iv\u00e1n Marques and Senior Officer Guillermo Moncayo .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the visit was to present, to the representatives of the SMS\/OAS, the current state of development of the activities carried out by the IADB to strengthen confidence in the American hemisphere, in areas such as cyber security and defense, management and arms control, humanitarian demining, gender equality, the environment and control of migratory flows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OAS Secretariat for Multidimensional Security has the mission of promoting and coordinating cooperation among OAS member states - and between them and the inter-American system and other entities of the international system - to evaluate, prevent, confront and respond effectively. to security threats, with the vision of being the main hemispheric reference for the development of cooperation and the strengthening of the capacities of the OAS member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scope of action of the SMS is the Declaration on Security in the Americas and its new conception of security in the Hemisphere, characterized by its multidimensional character, which includes traditional threats, new threats, concerns and other challenges to the security of the States. of the Hemisphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The oldest multilateral defense organization in the world, created during World War II, the IADB is a member entity of the OAS and its main objective is to provide, to it and its member states, technical advisory services, advice and education on matters related to military and defense issues in the hemisphere, in order to contribute to compliance with the OAS Charter in its four pillars: Democracy, Human Rights, Security and Development, with a main focus on the Security pillar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the historic and traditional facilities of Casa do Soldado, in Washington-DC, the visitors were received by Brigadier General Marco Antonio \u00c1lvarez Reyes (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates of the IADB, and by Brigadier Major Fl\u00e1vio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), Director General of the Secretariat, accompanied by Brigadier General Carlos Eduardo Costa (Brazil), Deputy Director of the Inter-American Defense College (CID), Brigadier General Giovani Moretto, Head of the Brazilian Representation in the Inter-American Defense Board (RBJID), and Colonel Matthew Heim (USA), Director of the Undersecretariat of Services and Advisory of the IADB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
