From August 12 to 19, 2023, the Inter-American Defense Board will participate in the 2nd phase of Operation Paran\u00e1 III, a humanitarian aid exercise that will be carried out in the southern region of Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Operation Paran\u00e1 III is an activity planned by the Conference of American Armies (CEA) and consists of simulating a natural disaster event, during which hypothetical cases involving the use of an international humanitarian support effort will be explored. During the event, situations will be simulated that lead to the activation of structures used in medical care activities in a field hospital, air and river rescues, landslides with victims and resupply in disaster zones, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the development process of the Paran\u00e1 III humanitarian aid exercise, the Inter-American Defense Board and the Conference of American Armies carried out interactions, providing an exchange of good practices and lessons learned, as was already done during the planning and execution of the Mecodex 2023 Exercise .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conceived with the support of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CMDA) and held in Ecuador in May, Mecodex 2023 also simulated the occurrence of a catastrophic event, with serious repercussions for the population and negative consequences beyond the response capacity. of the affected country, which implies the need for international humanitarian aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Mecodex 2023, the procedures under development of MECODE by the IADB were tested and worked on, a voluntary instrument for disaster response and civil and military cooperation between nations and international organizations, currently in development, whose basic premise is respect for the sovereignty of each nation and as its main purpose contribute to objective and effective collaboration in humanitarian assistance actions carried out within the member countries of the Organization of American States (OAS).
