On May 31, at the facilities of the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) of the Republic of Peru, based in the city of Lima, the different authorities of the organizations invited to participate in the Humanitarian Assistance Simulation Exercise International \u201cMECODEX-CMDA 2024\u201d accompanied a presentation on the 1st National Multihazard Simulator 2024, by General Juan Carlos Urcariegui Reyes, Head of the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The objective of the exercise is to strengthen the preparation capacity of the population and entities that make up the National Disaster Risk Management System (SINAGERD), through the application of its family emergency plans, protocols and procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scenario presented is an earthquake, followed by a tsunami, which would affect the city of Lima. Thus, after the country's response and if it is considered that its capabilities have been surpassed, defined through a sovereign decision and communicated by official means, an international call would activate the \u201cMECODE-CMDA\u201d Disaster Cooperation Mechanism, beginning the International Humanitarian Assistance Exercise \u201cMECODEX-CMDA 2024\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MECODEX exercise is part of the framework of MECODE, a cooperation mechanism between countries in the event of disasters developed by the Inter-American Defense Board - at the request of the Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CMDA) and established under the Mandate of the Organization of the American States \u2013 which seeks to contribute with updated, reliable and timely information for a shorter response time and better administration of international resources and the support received to face situations of public calamity, in addition to the efforts made by the country itself.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
