On August 7, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) received a visit from Ambassador Claudia Escobar Mej\u00eda, Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the Organization of American States (OAS), accompanied by Counselor Mauricio Benard Estrada, Alternate Representative of Guatemala to the OAS and Alternate Delegate of Guatemala to the IADB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the visit, the Guatemalan delegation received a brief presentation on the objectives, structure, organization and activities carried out within the framework of the IADB, in order to comply with the mandates established by the OAS and its Democratic Charter on issues such as Cooperation in Disasters; Cyber Security; Humanitarian Demining; Migratory Flows; Arms Management; Women, Peace and Security; New Technologies; Environmental Protection; and Maritime, Air and Land Security.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The importance of the contribution of civilian and military personnel of the Member States to the various academic programs of the Inter-American Defense College was also highlighted, which promotes dialogue and the construction of knowledge to address hemispheric challenges on issues of common interest to the States of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the traditional and historic facilities of the Casa del Soldado in Washington, the visitors were received by General Marco Antonio \u00c1lvarez Reyes (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates of the IADB; Major Brigadeiro do Ar Flavio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), Director General of the IADB Secretariat; General Richard Heitkamp (United States), Director of the Inter-American Defense College; and General Carlos Gustavo Baz\u00e1n Barrios (Paraguay), Vice President of the Council of Delegates of the IADB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
