“THE INSERTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW INTO THE CULTURE OF THE ARMED FORCES: preparing troops for use in military operations”.
Aim: to analyze and discuss how knowledge and respect for the norms of International Human Rights Law (IHRL) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) are inserted as part of the military culture instilled in members of the Armed Forces, from school benches in several countries of the inter-American system.
The Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) is pleased to invite you to the “Seminar on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.” This important event, which is already a tradition and has massive public participation (around 14,000 registrants from 51 countries in the 2023 edition), will bring together experts on the subject, offering the opportunity and promoting the exchange of information, experiences, lessons learned and best practices among the IADB Member States and Observers. Describing how learning and discussions on this topic are carried out at all levels of training, specialization and improvement of its Officers and Graduates, with a view to better preparing and employing their troops in military operations, inside and outside their countries, respecting the norms of IHRL and IHL.
This will be a valuable opportunity to receive information that will allow military organizations, civilian groups, and the general public to gain new perspectives on the readiness of the Western Hemisphere's Armed Forces.
Directed to the general public, this seminar international will be carried out in format virtual and will have simultaneous translation into English, Spanish and Portuguese on the Inter-American Defense Board's YouTube channels.
