Webinar: Protection of Critical Infrastructure in the Event of Disasters

The Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) will hold the Virtual Conference on Protection of Critical Infrastructure in the Event of Disaster on December 4, 2020, from 09:00 am to 02:35 pm (EZT).

The event aims to exchange knowledge between members of the OAS, the IADB and other bodies involved in the protection of critical infrastructure in the event of disasters.

PROPOSED TOPICS:

1. Definition of critical Infrastructure (IE), main vulnerabilities to disasters, priority of IE, development of resilience for disasters.

Objective: Identify the main concepts of Critical EI and the considerations for its protection in the event of a disaster.

2. Legal framework for the use of the Armed Forces (FFAA) in the protection of critical EI in the event of disasters, internal legal tools and international support agreements, trigger mechanism, need for the development of complementary capabilities, preparation and training cycle.

Objective: Identify the role of the Armed Forces in the Protection of Critical Infrastructures in the event of a disaster.

3. Internal or international experiences of real cases of use of the Armed Forces and other means in the Protection of critical EI: coordination, training and civil-military planning for before, during and after the disaster, main lessons learned.

Objective: Identify the actions developed by the Armed Forces and other actors in the protection of critical EI.
