Because it is important?

Humanitarian demining plays a critical role in preserving lives and mitigating the devastating impacts caused by landmines in various regions of the world. These silent weapons, often left behind after armed conflicts, pose a constant threat to local communities, making coordination of efforts in this area extremely important. The Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) plays a significant role in humanitarian demining activities, coordinating and supporting programs in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS) through GATI and GMI activities. This not only results in the safe removal of landmines, but also in training local teams, educating communities about the dangers of mines and promoting awareness of the importance of demining.

What do we do?

The IADB coordinates and supports demining programs, contributing to the safe removal of landmines, training local teams, and raising community awareness about the dangers of mines. Additionally, it seeks to expand its network of contacts, promote economic and social development in affected areas and foster peace in America, playing a vital role in preserving lives and mitigating the impacts of landmines.

How do we do it?

The IADB works closely with the OAS, particularly through GATI and GMI activities, ensuring effective coordination of demining operations and promoting safety, education and awareness in communities affected by landmines. This collaboration is essential for the preservation of lives and the development of impacted areas.

Who do we do it with?

Our efforts are carried out in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS), specifically through the activities of GATI and GMI. The close relationship and coordination with these groups plays a fundamental role in our work in the field of humanitarian demining. We work together with the OAS, GMI and GATI teams to ensure that demining operations are effective, thus promoting the preservation of lives and the construction of a safer and more prosperous future for affected communities.
