Transfer of the Presidency of the Council of Delegates of the IADB

On June 22, 2021, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) held its transfer ceremony of the position of President of the IADB Council of Delegates.

The ceremony took place at the "Casa del Soldado" and was chaired by the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Luis Almagro, and was attended by the President of the Hemispheric Security Commission, Ambassador Rita Claverie Díaz de Sciolli, the Minister of State for Mines and Energy of Brazil, Admiral Bento Albuquerque, and several civil and military authorities.

During the event, the President of the Council of Delegates of the IADB for the period between June 21, 2019 and June 22, 2021, Division General Luciano José Penna, made a brief historical report and pointed out the current challenges of the IADB, in addition to pointing out the great capacity for adaptation and the important work of integration between the nations of the hemisphere carried out in this Board.

The elected President of the Council of Delegates of the IADB, Vice Admiral Alexandre Rabello de Faria, thanked the Member States for his election to the position of President of the Council of Delegates and all those who honored the ceremony, and highlighted the resistance of this Board to what throughout its history.

The Secretary General of the OAS, Ambassador Luis Almagro, highlighted the importance of the IADB to contribute to peaceful coexistence among the States of the hemisphere, the defense of democracy, humanitarian aid work, and mitigation of the effects of natural disasters. and the defense of human rights.

The IADB was created in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the Third Consultation Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 21 American Republics that were part of the Pan American Union.

Currently, the IADB has 29 member states and 8 observer countries.
