On February 7, 2019, the President of the Council of Delegates of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), Brigadier General Luis Rodríguez Bucio, gave a presentation on "IADB efforts to increase regional capabilities to respond to natural disasters" , within the context of the Seminar on Complex Emergencies and Large Scale Disasters, at the Inter-American Defense College (CID).
The seminar focused on complex natural and man-made emergencies and large-scale disaster situations, with a focus on national preparedness, mitigation and response. The types of emergencies and disasters addressed included large-scale terrorist attacks and natural, biological and technological disasters. This seminar had emphasis on the national and international forces and agencies responsible for highlighting the need for greater national and regional synergistic integration and coordination in emergency and disaster planning and management in the Western Hemisphere. The seminar brought together technical experts, professionals and policymakers in disaster risk management and regional security, with participation from the military, police, members of foreign services, civil defense, security and officials from the Ministry of Emergencies and Disasters.
With this participation, the IADB Bodies promote and strengthen among themselves the technical, consultative and educational advisory activities towards the Organization of American States (OAS) and its Member States, through the dissemination of knowledge and experiences among leaders and strategic advisors. of various nations of the Americas in matters related to the defense and security of the Hemisphere, thus managing to foster and strengthen hemispheric confidence and security, focusing on regional collaboration and cooperation in the face of the common threat represented by complex emergencies and large-scale disasters. .
