Humanitarian Demining – Evaluation of Civil Organizations

Humanitarian Demining – Evaluation of Civil Organizations

From November 28 to December 6, 2022, officials from the Group of Inter-American Humanitarian Demining Monitors in Colombia (GMI-CO), a team of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), supported the Comprehensive Action Program against Antipersonnel Mines in Colombia (AICMA-CO) in evaluation of new humanitarian demining operators of the organization “Colombian Campaign Against Mines”, in the municipality of Puerto Asís, Department of Putumayo. There were evaluations in the functions of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Operators (EOD) level 2, Clearance Supervisors, Deminers and Clearance Leaders.

Since its creation in 2006, the GMI-CO has been, together with the AICMA Program of the Organization of American States, supporting the efforts of the Colombian authorities to reduce the effects of antipersonnel mines and other explosive devices, which have been penalizing the population of the country for more than five decades. Currently, the Group is made up of officers from the Armed Forces of Brazil and Mexico.
