Last Tuesday, August 1, the Inter-American Defense Board received the visit of the Military Adviser of Brazil to the United Nations (UN), Lieutenant Brigadier Luiz Fernando de Aguiar, accompanied by his future substitute in office, the General of Army Antonio Eduardo Fernandes.
At the Casa do Soldado, the representatives of the Brazilian delegation to the UN had the opportunity to learn, through a brief conference, about the current state of development of the activities carried out by the IADB in favor of strengthening trust and security in the hemisphere, on relevant topics such as cybersecurity and defense, weapons management and control, maritime security, humanitarian demining, disaster support and prevention, gender equality, the environment and control of migratory flows.
In his words at the end of the event, Brigadier Aguiar thanked the opportunity of the visit and highlighted the convergence of issues addressed within the IADB/OAS system and also at the UN level, opening the possibility of greater exchange of knowledge between institutions in the various areas of common interest.
The oldest multilateral defense organization in the world, created during World War II, the main objective of the IADB is to provide it and its member states with technical advisory services and education on matters related to military and defense affairs in the hemisphere, in order to contribute to compliance with the OAS Charter in its four pillars: Democracy, Human Rights, Security and Development, with a main focus on the Security pillar.
At the Casa del Soldado, the visitors were received by Brigadier General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates; Brigadier Major Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), General Director of the IADB Secretariat; and Brigadier General Néstor Zalazar Echauri (Paraguay), Vice President of the Council of Delegates.
Also participating in the event were Brigadier General Giovani Moretto, Head of the Brazilian Representation before the Inter-American Defense Board (RBJID), and Brigadier Fabio Luis Morau, Defense and Air Force Attaché in the United States, in addition to members military personnel of the Inter-American Defense Board.
