In an event held within the framework of the "Regional Meeting 25 years after Hurricane Mitch", in the city of San Pedro Sula, Republic of Honduras, Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto, General Director of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) , and Mrs. Claudia Herrera Melgar, Executive Secretary of the Coordination Center for Disaster Prevention in Central America and the Dominican Republic (CEPREDENAC), signed an important Technical Cooperation Agreement between the institutions.
The objective of the agreement is to lay the foundations for an alliance between the parties in the field of cooperation in disaster matters, through joint actions that contribute to the strengthening of capacities and facilitate the exchange and access to information, knowledge, experiences, lessons learned, technologies, information systems and support services, consulting and technical advice.
CEPREDENAC is a regional intergovernmental organization whose general objective is to contribute to reducing vulnerability and the impact of disasters, as an integral part of the process of transformation and sustainable development of the region, within the framework of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
The IADB, the oldest multilateral defense organization in the world, created during World War II, is a member entity of the OAS and its main objective is to provide the OAS and its member states with technical advisory services, consulting and education on issues related to military and defense issues in the hemisphere, in order to contribute to compliance with the OAS Charter in its four pillars: Democracy, Human Rights, Security and Development, with the main focus on the Security pillar.
The Inter-American Defense Board was invited to participate in the Mitch +25 Forum and the Regional Early Action Platform, two simultaneous events that will take place from October 31 to November 2, 2023, and was represented by Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto and by Peruvian Army Colonel Orlando Melvin Ugaz Bartolo, Head of the Disaster Cooperation Division of the IADB.
