On August 20, 2024, the heads of the delegations of Mexico, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic to the Inter-American Defense Board – Brigadier General Manuel Ladrón De Guevara Job, Rear Admiral João Batista Barbosa, and Rear Admiral Franklin O. Frías Duarte – visited the facilities of the Casa del Soldado.
During the visit, the Heads of Delegation stressed the importance of cooperation and collaboration among the Armed Forces of the Hemisphere to jointly address continental challenges. They also expressed their willingness to work actively within the Council to strengthen ties and achieve common goals.
The IADB leadership – represented by General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates; Brigadier Flavio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), Director General; General Carlos Eduardo Barbosa da Costa (Brazil), Deputy Director of the Inter-American Defense College; and General Carlos Bazán Barrios (Paraguay), Vice President of the Council of Delegates – presented an overview of the organization, highlighting its role in promoting cooperation and dialogue among the American states. Emphasis was placed on how the IADB works to address current hemispheric challenges, in line with the mandates of the OAS and its Democratic Charter.
The multilateral nature of the IADB was reaffirmed during the recent visit of the heads of the delegations of Mexico, Brazil and the Dominican Republic. Participants agreed on the importance of regional cooperation to address common hemispheric challenges, such as cybersecurity and natural disasters. IADB leadership also provided an overview of ongoing activities and future lines of action, highlighting the role of the Inter-American Defense College in training defense professionals.
