On September 27, 2024, the President of the Council of Delegates, General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes (Mexico), represented the Inter-American Defense Board at the closing of the Alumni and Emerging Leaders Summit, held at the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies.
During his participation in the event, the representative of the IADB leadership highlighted the importance of holding high-level events such as the summit, while recognizing the relevance of the active participation of young civilian professionals in the security and defense sectors of the region, inviting them to reflect on the crucial issues addressed - such as transnational threats, democratic governance and human rights in security policies - and highlighting their role as future leaders in these perennial challenges.

During his message, General Álvarez also encouraged participants to apply the knowledge acquired in a practical way and to strengthen their professional networks, emphasizing their fundamental role in addressing the shared challenges in our region, highlighting that the future of security in the Americas lies with the new generations, urging everyone to adapt to the evolution of threats and to build a safer future.
The summit also addressed the importance of international collaboration in the face of transnational threats such as organized crime, illicit trafficking and cyber warfare. In conclusion, the responsibility of leaders to work collaboratively on security and defense matters was emphasized, always defending democratic values that contribute to regional stability.
