Ecuador's Joint Military Defense Academy visits the JID

On October 10, 2024, the directors and students of the Joint Military Defense Academy of Ecuador (ADEMIC) visited the facilities of the Inter-American Defense Board and were received by the Vice President of the Council of Delegates, General Carlos Gustavo Bazán Barrios (Paraguay).

During the visit, the Head of the IADB's Undersecretariat for Advisory Services, Colonel Daniel Fitch (USA), presented the visitors with an overview of the organization, highlighting its role in promoting cooperation and dialogue among the American States. He also emphasized how the IADB works to address current hemispheric challenges, in line with the mandates of the OAS and its Democratic Charter, and stressed the importance of cooperation and collaboration among the Armed Forces of the Hemisphere to jointly address continental challenges.

The multilateral nature of the IADB was reaffirmed during the recent visit of the Joint Military Defense Academy of Ecuador. Participants agreed on the importance of regional cooperation to address common hemispheric challenges, such as cybersecurity, organized crime and natural disasters.

ADEMIC's mission is to improve the knowledge of officers of the Armed Forces, at the strategic and political-strategic level, through the development of military education and doctrine management, to guarantee the effective direction and leadership of Military Power in the security, defense and development of the State.  

The visiting delegation included 63 students and Colonels Victor Hugo Villavicencio Zavala, Military Advisor of the Permanent Mission of Ecuador to the OAS/IADB; José Colón Loaiza Ledesma, Director of the Joint Military Defense Academy; Marco Antonio Villacís Batallas, Head of Academic Administration of ADEMIC; and Dehvi Rodolfo Salgado Proaño, Vice President of the Military Sports Federation of Ecuador (FEDEME).
