The General Directorate of the Secretariat appointed Mr. Col. EMC Carlos Ignacio Chávez Villavicencio, who participated on behalf of the Inter-American Defense Board in the “Furnas 2025” Exercise, organized by the Brazilian Navy, an event that took place from October 20 to 29, 2025 in Furnas, Minas Gerais Province (Brazil).

The objective of this exercise was to train the Marine Corps units, integrated with the air and naval resources of the Brazilian Navy, in riverine operations, peacekeeping operations and inter-institutional training, with the participation of municipal and state agencies.

The exercise included: humanitarian assistance, river assault, water crossings and combat missions with helicopters from the Brazilian Navy, as well as peacekeeping operations exercises.
Finally, we participated in the seminar and exercise on humanitarian aid in a crisis situation (WORKSHOP) with the Civil Defense, which brought together military personnel from the Brazilian Navy and counterpart organizations from Minas Gerais (city of Passos), an exercise that sought to promote mutual knowledge about the capabilities and limitations of the institutions involved and increase cooperation in humanitarian assistance actions, seeking preventive solutions and effective responses to possible disasters in the region.

The Inter-American Defense Board, as an international military organization with the capacity to actively participate as an observer in these military exercises, has the opportunity to transmit, coordinate, and synchronize efforts to improve, adjust, and project arguments and tools to States in order to consolidate the support and humanitarian aid of the Nations in the region and the hemisphere.
