The Inter-American Defense Board participated in the preparatory meeting for the XVII Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas.

From March 1 to 3, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) participated in the preparatory meeting of the XVII Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CMDA), a space aimed at promoting dialogue and cooperation on regional defense and security matters.

During the meeting, the IADB presented the results obtained from the Disaster Cooperation Mechanism (MECODE), whose objective is to provide timely and organized humanitarian assistance to member countries in disaster or emergency situations. It is worth noting that, at the request of the CMDA, the Organization of American States (OAS) delegated to the IADB the responsibility for the development and implementation of this mechanism.

Also announced were the activities planned for 2026, including the Civil-Military Humanitarian Coordination course developed in conjunction with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the MECODEX – Brazil 2026 exercise.

The meeting also facilitated the coordination of future bilateral meetings between the IADB leadership and the civilian and military authorities of member countries, with the aim of further fostering and strengthening hemispheric trust and security.
