INAUGURATION OF THE MECODEX BRAZIL EXERCISE – 2026

Today, Monday, May 4, at the facilities of the Higher School of Defense, in the city of Brasilia, the opening ceremony of the MECODEX Brazil 2026 Exercise took place.

The ceremony was presided over by Brazil's Minister of Defense, José Múcio Monteiro Filho, and was attended by military and civilian authorities, representatives of international organizations, and special guests.

Representing the IADB were the Chairman of the Council of Delegates, Major General Cesar Macedo Garcia, and the Director General of the Secretariat, Division General Reinaldo Salgado Beato.

During the ceremony, the Brazilian Minister of Defense delivered the opening remarks for the exercise. Likewise, the Director General of the Secretariat of the Inter-American Defense Board indicated that Mecodex is consolidating its position as an act of strengthening hemispheric cooperation and reaffirmed the conviction that the resilience of our continent is not built in isolation, but rather through solidarity, coordination, and the integration of efforts in favor of hemispheric security.

Likewise, he expressed his special appreciation to the Brazilian Ministry of Defense for its leadership in organizing this important event, as well as to the Brazilian Army's Military Engineering Institute for its essential technical support in developing the Disaster Cooperation System.

The Inter-American Defense Board welcomes the start of this exercise and wishes all participants a highly productive day, aimed at strengthening hemispheric cooperation in the face of disasters and emergencies.
