On April 23, during the Ordinary Meeting No. 1464 of the Council of Delegates, the election process was carried out to choose the country that will host the International Humanitarian Assistance Exercise “MECODEX-CMDA 2025”, through strict scrutiny in accordance with the current regulations of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB).

In this event, the delegates representing the member countries of the IADB participated actively to select the country that would host the aforementioned exercise, among which Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana and the Dominican Republic presented themselves as candidates, resulting in Guyana elected with a majority of votes.

In that order, the leadership of the IADB headed by Brigadier General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes, President of the Council of Delegates and Major Brigadeiro do Ar Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto, Director General of the Secretariat, directed the important electoral process. In turn, General Álvarez highlighted the importance of this since it energizes the interaction of the countries and demonstrates the commitment to strengthening the Board, in addition, it increases the sense of transparency, legitimacy and trust in the internal processes of the Board. For his part, Colonel Julius Randolph Skeete, of the Guyana Defense Forces, Delegate representing his country before the IADB, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity they have due to the selection of his nation as the host of the Exercise, mentioning that They are very committed to the development of said event and will undertake its execution with great enthusiasm and professionalism to continue the growth of the IADB in our hemisphere. Guyana is a member of the IADB, the Organization of American States (OAS), the Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CMDA) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

The International Humanitarian Assistance Simulation Exercise “MECODEX-CMDA” is carried out by mandate of the Organization of American States on an annual basis, with the purpose of validating and improving the processes and sub-processes of the Disaster Cooperation Mechanism (MECODE- CMDA). This year, the MECODEX-CMDA 2024 exercise will have the Republic of Peru as its host country and will take place on May 31, June 3 and 4.
