The Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) has two humanitarian demining missions established in Colombia, being the Group of Inter-American Technical Advisors (GATI) in charge of providing training courses to Colombian military personnel for the performance of the role of National Humanitarian Demining Monitor, among other missions.
As part of the activities of the 1st National Humanitarian Demining Monitor Course (CMNDH) 2023, an extension seminar was held during which the "Heroes of Honor Club" was presented, an entity made up of Colombian military personnel affected by mines and/or o Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).
On the occasion, the activities carried out by the club were presented, as well as testimonies of how accidents with explosives occurred, indicating the care that must be taken to prevent new accidents from occurring in the Humanitarian Demining activity.
In order to strengthen the ties of friendship with the members of the "Club Héroes de Honor", the Inter-American Technical Group of Advisors (GATI) coordinated a soccer match on March 10, 2023, so that students could observe the limitations caused by accidents with explosive devices and the improvement that those affected must demonstrate to return to their daily activities.
He GATI uses awareness and observation as complementary teaching-learning tools so that students have greater awareness of their responsibilities as future Humanitarian Demining monitors, in addition to valuing examples of determination and resilience in the face of the consequences of mine accidents and/or o Improvised Explosive Devices.
