Within the framework of the Ordinary Meeting 1,464, held on April 23, 2024, Ambassador Carmen Montón, representative of Spain to the Organization of American States (OAS), was present.
On the occasion, the Ambassador congratulated the Inter-American Defense Board for its continuous work in favor of cooperation and understanding among the peoples of the hemisphere, contributing to peace and stability, and also highlighted the importance that her country gives to its presence in the OAS, which motivates the development of a series of initiatives that allow cooperation between member countries, such as Humanitarian Demining, Maritime Security, Cyberspace Security, Education and research, Women, Peace and Security and Cooperation in Disasters and Emergencies , among other important areas.
In addition to the above, the priority initiative that your country shares with the IADB is the Gender Advisor in Operations course, where she has extensive accredited experience, reaffirming that in the field of Defense the incorporation of women in the Spanish Armed Forces constitutes a model for study and reference.
At the Casa del Soldado, the Ambassador was accompanied by Major General Antonio Esteban López - who serves as Defense Advisor and Hemispheric Security Advisor to the Spanish Representation before the OAS and Permanent Observer before the IADB - and was received by the General Marco Antonio Álvarez (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates; by Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), Director General; and by General Carlos Bazán Barrios (Paraguay), Vice President of the Council of Delegates, as well as by Delegates from the different countries accredited to the IADB.
