JID addresses humanitarian assistance and disaster response at US SOUTHCOM Senior Leader Logistics Symposium 2024

From June 4 to 6, the IADB participated in the “Senior Leader Logistics Symposium 2024 (SLLS 2024)”, promoted by the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), in Doral (Florida, USA).

SLLS 2024, whose inauguration was led by General Laura J. Richardson, Commander of SOUTHCOM, brought together representatives from countries, international organizations and industry, and had as one of its objectives the exchange of opinions on strategic and operational logistics, focused on the topic "preparation."

Brigadier Flávio, Director General of the IADB Secretariat, gave the opening conference on the last day of the event, and addressed the activities currently carried out by the organization, especially in the area of Disaster Cooperation. Colonel Gabriel, Advisor to the Disaster Cooperation Division, presented the CMDA Disaster Cooperation Mechanism (MECODE-CMDA), currently developed by the IADB.

Colonel Heim, Director of the Undersecretary of Advisory Services of the IADB, highlighted the importance of participation in SLLS 2024, which allowed greater visibility of the IADB's initiatives and the dissemination of the Disaster Cooperation Seminar – to be held in October 2024 – and the MECODEX 2025, Humanitarian Aid Exercise to be carried out in Guyana in 2025.

As a result of the symposium, possibilities for cooperation were seen in the organization of conferences, workshops and seminars, as well as the development of common doctrines, especially in the area of Humanitarian Aid.
