JID participates in meeting of Liaison Officers of Member Armies and Observers of the CEA

During the week of September 18 to 22, the Meeting of Liaison Officers of the Member and Observer Armies of the Conference of American Armies (CEA) was held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The objective of the activity was to finalize the preparations for the Conference of Commanders of the American Armies (CCEA), scheduled for next November.

At the meeting, chaired by the Secretary General of the CEA – Cycle XXXV (2022-23), General Dutra, of the Brazilian Army, the results of the topics studied by the specialized committees of the CEA were presented, in the areas of interoperability, joint exercises/operations, cooperation/integration mechanisms between armies, education/preparation, intelligence and science/technology, as well as the results of Operation Paraná III – which took place in Brazil, in August, with the participation of armies from 15 countries in the Americas – in addition to the topics that will be discussed at the CCEA.

Still within the agenda of the meeting, the future Secretary General of Cycle XXXVI (2024-25) of the CEA, General Vega, of the Mexican Army, presented the calendar of activities planned to be carried out starting next year.

The IADB liaison officer with the CEA, Colonel Guimarães Jr, of the Brazilian Army, received the Medal of the Brotherhood of the American Armies, in recognition of the efficient services provided to the Conference, and announced the next activities that will be promoted by the Inter-American Defense Board, such as the Seminar on Women, Peace and Security, scheduled for September 28, and the I Conference on Environmental Protection, scheduled for October 11. The free events are open for registration on the JID website (www.jid.org) and will be held in a hybrid manner - in-person and virtual - with simultaneous broadcast in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
