JID participates in meeting of the Superior Council of the Conference of Armed Forces of Central America

Represented by Brigadier General Marco Antonio Alvarez Reyes (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates, and by Brigadier Major Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), Director General of the Secretariat, accompanied by officials from the Sections on International Organizations and Hemispheric Situation, the Inter-American Defense Board participated, on July 26, in the XLVIII Meeting of the Superior Council of the Conference of Central American Armed Forces (CFAC).

Created in 1997, the CFAC is an international military organization, established with the purpose of contributing to security, development and military integration in Central America, as well as carrying out humanitarian and peacekeeping operations within the framework of the United Nations. United, in accordance with the legal system of each country. Its objective is to promote a permanent and systematic effort of cooperation, coordination and mutual support between the Armed Forces of the component States – El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic – for the collegiate study of issues of common interest, in order to provide an adequate level of defense against threats to democracy, peace and freedom.

During the Conference, among other relevant topics, the challenges and solutions found by the Armed Forces will be analyzed to support their countries in facing some of the main threats of today, such as transnational organized crime, international arms trafficking, illegal immigration, environmental crimes and cyber attacks.

The only international organization accredited as a military observer before the CFAC, the IADB was created during World War II and has as one of its main objectives the promotion of confidence and the promotion of the strengthening of defense and security organizations on the American continent.
