JID conducts training for MECODEX CMDA 2024 exercise

The Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), as Permanent Secretariat of the Disaster Cooperation Mechanism of the Conference of Ministers of Defense of the Americas (MECODE-CMDA), has among its functions the organization, conduct and direction of annual disaster simulation exercises. humanitarian assistance in case of disasters (MECODEX-CMDA).

Thus, in preparation for the next Humanitarian Assistance Exercise in Cases of Disasters (MECODEX CMDA 2024), which will be held in Peru, from May 31 to June 4, and based on the cooperation agreement established between the IADB and the Coordinating Center for Disaster Prevention in Central America and the Dominican Republic (CEPREDENAC), members of the Disaster Cooperation Division of the Inter-American Defense Board and officials of the Republic of Peru conducted virtual training on the use of the Regional Mutual Aid Mechanism Disasters of the Central American Integration System (MEC-REG).

Developed with the purpose of establishing and socializing the general guidelines for the coordination of international humanitarian assistance within the scope of the Central American Integration System, the MEC-REC contributes to the transparent and effective management of available resources, facilitating the sending, transit and simulated reception of international humanitarian assistance and the integration of civil-military relations in the protocols and procedures carried out in this area.

The collaboration between the IADB and CEPREDENAC, focused on training and capacity development, highlights the importance of a joint approach to strengthen resilience in emergency situations, helping humanitarian aid reach, quickly and efficiently, at critical moments. those who need it most.
