JID holds Hemispheric Cyber Defense Seminar

On October 31 of this year, the Inter-American Defense Board's Hemispheric Cyber Defense Seminar was held in hybrid mode, with 5,573 registrants from 45 countries, representing a percentage increase of 1,80% compared to the 2023 version.

The opening remarks of the event were given by Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto, Director General of the IADB Secretariat. The topic of the presentation was the importance of “International Cooperation in Cyberdefense” and included the participation of speakers who are leaders in the area, such as Brigadier General Keith Osmond of the United States Cyberspace Command (USCYBERCOM), Lieutenant Colonel Arnaldo Cepeda of the Cyberdefense Command of the Armed Forces of Ecuador, Mrs. Kerry Ann Barrett of OAS-CICTE, Captain Luciano Moraes of the Brazilian Navy (IADB), as well as a special presentation by the representative of the FBI, from Ottawa, Canada.

Finally, the success of the seminar highlighted the importance of coordinated, inclusive and well-organized cybersecurity, with the relevance of strengthening alliances, fostering diversity, standardizing protocols, increasing training, integrating the private sector, promoting cyber diplomacy and thus improving hemispheric cyber defense.
