On August 31, the Inter-American Defense Board received the visit of the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the Organization of American States, Ambassador Benoni Belli, on the occasion accompanied by Counselor Márcio Rebouças, also a member of the country's representation in the OAS.
The objective of the event was to present to visitors the current state of development of the activities carried out by the IADB in favor of building trust and security in the American hemisphere, in areas such as arms management and control, humanitarian demining, security and cyber defense, gender equality, environment, human rights and international humanitarian law, maritime security, humanitarian support, cooperation in disaster situations and control of migratory flows.
As in the case of the Inter-American Defense Board, Brazil was one of the founding members of the OAS, signing the 1948 Charter. Brazilian action in the inter-American context is based on the principles enshrined in the country's Federal Constitution, which guide actions for the effective promotion of the fundamental "pillars" of the Organization (democracy, comprehensive development, human rights and multidimensional security).
The IADB, the oldest multilateral defense organization in the world, created during World War II, is a member entity of the OAS and its main objective is to provide it and its member states with technical advisory services and education on matters related to military and defense in the hemisphere.
In the historic and traditional facilities of the Casa del Soldado, in Washington-DC, the visitors were received by Brigadier General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates of the IADB; Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), Director General of the Secretariat; and Brigadier General Néstor Zalazar Echauri (Paraguay), vice president of the Council of Delegates, accompanied by Brigadier General Giovani Moretto, head of the Brazilian Representation in the Inter-American Defense Board (RBJID).
