Last Thursday, October 5, the Inter-American Defense Board and the OAS Secretariat for Multidimensional Security held their first working meeting.
On this occasion, various topics related to the activity programs of the respective Institutions established for the current period were discussed, with the purpose of improving the work carried out in related areas, in accordance with the mandates and resolutions of the OAS, such as Strengthening of Confidence and Security Measures, Cyber Defense/Security, New Technologies and Demining and Arms Control, among others.
The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of Multidimensional Security, Iván Marques, and the General Director of the Secretariat of the Board, Brigadier Flavio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto, accompanied on the occasion by the Head of the Undersecretary of Advisory Services of the IADB, Colonel Mathews Heim, the Coordinator of the Multidimensional Security Secretariat, Guillermo Moncayo, and the Head of the Executive Liaison Office of the IADB with the OAS, Colonel Claudio Alcázar.
The OAS Secretariat for Multidimensional Security has the mission of promoting and coordinating cooperation among OAS member states - and between them and the inter-American system and other entities of the international system - to evaluate, prevent, confront and respond effectively. to security threats, with the vision of being the main hemispheric reference for the development of cooperation and the strengthening of the capacities of the OAS member states.
The oldest multilateral defense organization in the world, created during World War II, the IADB is a member entity of the OAS and its main objective is to provide, to it and its member states, technical advisory services, advice and education on matters related to military and defense issues in the hemisphere, in order to contribute to compliance with the OAS Charter in its four pillars: Democracy, Human Rights, Security and Development, with a main focus on the Security pillar.
