On June 13, the Inter-American Defense Board participated in the inauguration of the III Regional Drill for Disaster Response and Humanitarian Assistance, an important event held in Panama City.
With the participation of national authorities from 16 countries and international organizations, the seminar was organized by the Coordination Center for the Prevention of Disasters in Central America and the Dominican Republic (CEPREDENAC), within the framework of the Central American Integration System (SICA). ).
Among other important general objectives, the drill had the following main purposes: to collaborate in strengthening the capacities of the National Civil Protection and Comprehensive Risk and Disaster Management Systems (GIRD); contribute to Civil-Military relations with the Humanitarian Rescue Unit (UHR); measure the socioeconomic impact of disasters; test mechanisms, tools and technical guides for intervention in emergency situations; and position the use of information and communication technologies for response to humanitarian crises and disasters.
Colonels Orlando Melvin Ugaz Bartolo (Peru) and Rubens Guimarães Junior (Brazil) represented the IADB at the event.
