On December 11, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) received a visit from the Commander of the Brazilian Army, Army General Tomás Miguel Miné Ribeiro Paiva, who was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Army General Francisco Humberto Montenegro Junior, and the Brazilian Army Attaché in the United States, Brigadier General Everton Pacheco da Silva.

Received at the historic Casa del Soldado, in Washington, DC, by Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), General Director of the IADB Secretariat, General Tomás had the opportunity to learn more about the tasks he is currently carrying out. the Inter-American Defense Board, in areas such as Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, Environment, Cyberdefense, Disaster Cooperation, Maritime Security and Weapons Management, among others.

At the end of the visit, he addressed those present – among them Brigadier General Carlos Eduardo Costa, Deputy Director of the Inter-American Defense College; Brigadier General Giovani Moretto, Head of the Brazilian Representation before the Inter-American Defense Board; General Edgardo Loth Salazar Robles (Mexico), Chief of the General Staff of the Presidency of the Council of Delegates; and Colonel Matthew Heim (USA), Director of the Undersecretary of Services and Advisory of the IADB; as well as representatives of the Brazilian Delegation to the institution – General Tomás reinforced the valuable work carried out by the Inter-American Defense Board throughout its history and the important role it currently plays in benefiting the cooperation and promotion of defense and security in the American continent.

The IADB, the oldest multilateral defense organization in the world, was created during World War II with the initial mission of studying and proposing measures for the defense of the continent, a task that it has carried out successfully and uninterruptedly throughout its history. more than 80 years of existence.
