The Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), in coordination with the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) and the Conference of Ministers of Defense of the Americas (CMDA), carried out a Disaster Response Simulation Exercise to keep the inter-American system in a position to provide support in the event of disasters.
The exercise took place on May 26 and 27 and included the participation of the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Luis Almagro; the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Ambassador Néstor Méndez; the Executive President of the Geophysical Institute of Peru, Dr. Hernando Tavera; the President of the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI) of Peru, Division General (R) Alfredo Murgueytio, members of the Inter-American Committee for Disaster Reduction (ICDR) of the OAS, representatives of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), representatives of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs ( OCHA), various national authorities in Disaster Risk Management and Civil Protection, and more than 2,290 people from 23 countries.
