The Inter-American Defense Board participated in the opening ceremony of the II Specialized Conference – Paraguay 2024, within the framework of the Conference of American Armies (CEA), which took place from August 19 to 23 in the city of Asunción.
The event was attended by the Minister of National Defense of Paraguay, Army General (RE) Óscar Luis González Cañete. The Commander of the Paraguayan Army, General Manuel Rodríguez Sosa, gave the words of welcome, thanks and closing to all the officers and civilians of the countries participating in the Conference. During the event, the role of the armies in missions other than national defense was discussed, as part of the need for security for the population and economic development.
Peruvian Air Force Colonel Luis Alberto Arrascue Avellaneda, representing the IADB at the Conference, made a presentation on the main lines of action developed within the framework of the Inter-American Defense Board to promote and strengthen hemispheric confidence and security, highlighting the Mechanism for Cooperation in Cases of Disasters (MECODE-CMDA) - currently under development - and the annual exercise simulating international humanitarian aid (MECODEX-CMDA).
