On March 9, the Inter-American Defense Board participated as a speaker in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Hemispheric Security Commission of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), held within the framework of the commemoration ofInternational Women's Day, an academic event, which seeks to strengthen women's leadership in the security of the continent.
Captain Helen Huambo, member of the Board's Secretariat, gave the presentation on the integration of women in the Armed Forces of the member states in the organization's own activities; highlighting that the presence of female personnel in the history of the IADB has been progressive and has adapted to the advancement of women in the military career; The year 2017 was when the first officer of the Brazilian Navy was received, assigning her functions within its organic structure. Currently, the Inter-American Defense Board has four military women from Brazil and Peru, who fulfill professional missions in the General Secretariat of this Organization.
This event is added as one more activity planned to commemorate the 80 years of creation of the IADB, in accordance with its mission as a technical, consultative and educational entity in military and defense affairs of the hemisphere; Likewise, activities were planned such as: the seminar and the Women Peace and Security Magazine, and the 1st. Basic course on Assistance and protection in chemical emergencies for female personnel of the Armed Forces of the Member States of the OPCW-IDB (online modality).
