On September 8, the Inter-American Defense Board received a visit from HE Gustavo Lino Adrianzén Olaya, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Peru to the Organization of American States, who is also currently President of the Hemispheric Security Commission in this International Organization.
Among other important objectives - such as strengthening the traditional ties of work and cooperation that unite the IADB with the CSH - the purpose of the event was to present to the President of the CSH the situation of the activities carried out in the Board, from a multidimensional perspective, to favor of strengthening confidence and security in the American hemisphere, in areas such as: arms management and control, humanitarian demining, cybersecurity and defense, gender equality, environment, human rights and international humanitarian law, maritime security, humanitarian support , cooperation in disaster situations and control of migratory flows.
In accordance with Article 20 of the Regulations of the Permanent Council of the OAS, the function of the Committee on Hemispheric Security is to study and make recommendations to the Permanent Council on all matters related to hemispheric security entrusted to it and, through it , the General Assembly, in particular with a view to promoting cooperation in this area.
The Inter-American Defense Board, the oldest multilateral defense organization in the world, is an entity of the OAS and its mission is to provide it and its member states with technical advisory services and education on issues related to military affairs and defense issues in the world. hemisphere, in order to contribute to compliance with the OAS Charter in its four pillars: Democracy, Human Rights, Security and Development, with a main focus on the Security pillar.
During the visit, the President of the CSH was accompanied by Mr. José Roberto Rodríguez Bustamante Minister Counselor Alternate Representative (Peru), and General Carlos Orlando Ríos Aguilar, Delegate of Peru to the IADB.
In the historic and traditional facilities of the Casa del Soldado, in Washington, DC, the visitors were received by General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates; Brigadeiro Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), Director General of the Secretariat; General Néstor Zalazar Echauri (Paraguay), Vice President of the Council of Delegates; and General Carlos Eduardo Barbosa da Costa (Brazil), Vice Director of the Inter-American Defense College.
