INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR “STATES' CAPACITY FOR COOPERATION AGAINST ILLICIT TRAFFICKING IN ARMS AND AMMUNITION IN THE HEMISPHERE”

The Inter-American Defense Board held the International Seminar: States' Capacity for Cooperation against the illicit trafficking of arms and ammunition in the hemisphere, which takes on greater relevance on the Inter-American Day against Terrorism, a direct threat to the security and stability of the hemisphere.

The opening remarks were delivered by Major General Reinaldo Salgado Beato, Director General of the Secretariat of the Inter-American Defense Board, who emphasized the seminar's importance in addressing a problem that transcends borders. He also noted that the complexity of the topics discussed underscores the need to maintain and strengthen mechanisms for dialogue, cooperation, and technical exchange among states and specialized institutions.

Next, Colonel Luis Vivanco, Peruvian Army, Advisor to the Land Security Section of the IADB and coordinator of the event, highlighted the importance of bringing together international specialists to address this problem from a comprehensive, cooperative and hemispheric perspective.
