On June 26, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) inaugurated, in the historic facilities of the Casa do Soldado, in Washington-DC, an exhibition on the 81 years of the institution.
The oldest multilateral defense organization in the world, the IADB, was created during World War II, within the framework of the Third Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 21 American Republics, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 28, 1942, with the initial mission of studying and proposing measures for the defense of the continent, in the face of the threat posed by the Axis powers in World War II.
In the exhibition, through rare photos and documents, it is possible to follow the most notable moments of the path taken by the institution in the last eight decades, a period marked by profound economic, social and geopolitical transformations throughout the planet.
Currently, the IADB is a member entity of the Organization of American States (OAS) and its main objective is to provide it and its member states with advisory and educational services on matters related to military and defense affairs in the hemisphere, with in order to contribute to compliance with the OAS Charter.
