The Inter-American Defense Board (IDB) was created in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the Third Consultation Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 21 American Republics that made up the Pan American Union. Thus, on March 30, 1942, the IADB held its inaugural session.
As this historic date approaches for the American continent, on March 23, Ordinary Meeting No. 1430 was held virtually with the sole purpose of commemorating the 79th anniversary of the oldest Multilateral Defense Organization in the world.
During the activity, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Luis Almagro Lemes, highlighted the IADB's continuous advice to the OAS and its constant contribution to strengthening democratic institutions.
The President of the OAS Hemispheric Security Commission, Ambassador Rita Claverie Dias de Scioli, spoke about the historical evolution of the IADB and its contribution to combating new threats, among others.
He Army General Jorge Armando de Almeida Ribeiro, President of the Council of Delegates, from July 2006 to June 2007, highlighted the work of the IADB for inter-American integration.
And the current president of the Council of Delegates, Major General Luciano José Penna, highlighted the technical work carried out by the member countries, both military and civilian, who dedicate their time to the Casa do Soldado, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening democracy in the American Continent.
