Pan American Union of Armed Forces Reserve Officers visit the IADB

On April 2, the IADB received a visit from the Pan American Union of Armed Forces Reserve Officers UPORFA, represented by its President, Retired Brigadier General of the US Army FERNANDO FERNANDEZ and by Major General of the US Army Retired ROBERT W. SMITH III, Head of the US Delegation to UPORFA.

The purpose of the visit was to present to the IADB the effort made by UPORFA to promote the importance of democratic values and at the same time educate the nations of the Western Hemisphere about the value of using reservists in support of their armed forces. As a mission, UPORFA is entrusted with the task of disseminating knowledge about the foundations of a democratic society in which the Army is subordinate to freely elected civil authorities and at the same time providing advice and guidance in the development of reserve officers and their organizations. .

This effort has been promoted mainly through its member and observer countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Peru, the United States, Canada and Chile, which are also represented on the Inter-American Defense Board.

During this meeting, the President of UPORFA granted recognition and the distinction of the Pan American Union of Reserve Officers of the Armed Forces in an Honorary degree to Brigadier General LUIS RODRÍGUEZ BUCIO, President of the Inter-American Defense Board, by virtue of his careful collaboration and dedication through his leadership position in the IADB.

With important approaches like this, the IADB reaffirms its commitment to its Member States and collaborating organizations, to provide technical, consultative and educational advisory services on issues related to military and defense matters in the Hemisphere to contribute to compliance with the Charter of the IADB.
