This Tuesday (30), the Inter-American Defense Board received the visit of an important OAS delegation, headed by Secretary General Luis Almagro.
The purpose of the meeting was to coordinate the efforts of the institutions around the establishment of a joint work plan, in order to contribute to compliance with the OAS charter in its four pillars: democracy, human rights, security and development.
Among other relevant areas covered during the event, topics that cover some of the main challenges currently faced by the Security and Defense Systems of the Hemisphere are highlighted, such as humanitarian demining, environmental protection, cybersecurity and cyberdefense, cooperation in disasters, maritime security, human rights. human rights and international humanitarian law.
At the Soldier's House, the visitors were received by Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto, Secretary General of the IADB; by General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes, President of the Council of Delegates; and by General Carlos Eduardo Barbosa da Costa, Vice Director of the Inter-American Defense College.
Among other advisors, the Secretary General of the OAS was accompanied by the President of the Hemispheric Security Commission, Ambassador Gustavo Adrianzén; the Secretary of Access to Rights and Equity, Maricarmen Plata; the Secretary for the Strengthening of Democracy, Francisco Guerrero Aguirre; the Secretary of Multidimensional Security, Iván Marqués; and the Director of the Department of Sustainable Development, Mark Lambrides.
