CHANGE OF COMMAND IN THE LEADERSHIP OF THE INTER-AMERICAN DEFENSE BOARD

In an institutional ceremony held at the headquarters of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) on June 17 of this year, with the distinguished presence of Ambassador Benoni Belli, President of the Permanent Council of the OAS, as well as other senior diplomats and IADB officials, the official change of leadership of this historic technical-military organization of the inter-American system took place, marking the beginning of a new management period for the years 2025-2026.

Peruvian Air Force Major General César Augusto Macedo García assumed the presidency of the IADB Council of Delegates, while Brazilian Army Major General Reinaldo Salgado Beato was appointed the new Director General of the IADB Secretariat. Both officers bring extensive professional experience and a firm commitment to the principles of defense, cooperation, and hemispheric peace that characterize the Board. The Inter-American Defense College will continue under the leadership of Major General Richard J. Heitkamp, who has been reelected for a new term.

During the ceremony, the valuable work carried out by Major General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes, who completed his term as President of the Council of Delegates, and by Major General Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto, who completed his term as Director General of the IADB Secretariat, was recognized and highlighted. Both officers leave a legacy of institutional excellence, solid leadership, and ongoing dedication to strengthening the IADB's mission. The IADB expresses its sincere gratitude to General Marco Álvarez and Major General Flávio de Oliveira for their outstanding work, their commitment to the organization's values, and their contribution to strengthening regional cooperation in defense and security. Their efforts have left a lasting impact on the institution's technical and human progress.

With the addition of General Macedo and General Salgado to the leadership of the IADB, the commitment to hemispheric integration, technical-military advice, and the consolidation of spaces for dialogue and cooperation among member states is reaffirmed, with the firm purpose of continuing to advance toward a more secure, united, and supportive region.
