On March 10, 2022, the Group of Inter-American Technical Advisors in Colombia (GATI-CO) concluded the activities of the first Course of National Humanitarian Demining Monitors (CMNDH) of 2022. The instructions followed all the protective measures against Covid-19. 19, in accordance with the determinations of the General Command of the Military Forces (CGFM) and the School of Military Engineers (ESING). Eight soldiers were trained and certified as National Monitors, two of them from the Navy and six from the Colombian National Army.
The students had instructions, theoretical-practical evaluations and participated in a Humanitarian Demining seminar that included the participation of national and international institutions that are part of the Comprehensive Action Against Mines in Colombia. In addition, they took part in simulated Humanitarian Demining Operations Monitoring exercises, with situations similar to those currently occurring in Colombia.
The new National Monitors are trained to guarantee that all actions of a Humanitarian Demining Organization are executed in accordance with national and international standards.
The participation of the Technical Advisors of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) in Colombia has contributed to expanding the operational capacity of the Colombian military, to guarantee that Colombia is free of mines and explosive devices that kill and injure its population up to nowadays.
