On March 13, the Disaster Cooperation Division (DCD) of the Inter-American Defense Board (JID) and the Military Institute of Engineering (IME) of the Brazilian Army held a virtual working meeting, where issues related to the development of the MECODE-CMDA software program.

The DCD Advisor, Colonel Fábio Rodrigo de Assis, of the Brazilian Army, presented the Disaster Cooperation Mechanism – MECODE, conceived by the Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CMDA) and the General Secretariat of the IADB , with the support of the Organization of American States. Colonel Gustavo Pestana, Head of the Projects Office of the IADB Secretariat, also participated in the meeting. Colonel Escouper, computer engineer responsible for the development of the project, participated for the IME.

The IADB, as Permanent Secretary of the MECODE-CMDA, has as one of its functions the annual organization and conduct of the Humanitarian Assistance Simulation Exercises in the event of Disasters (MECODEX-CMDA), with much interest in this regard from the member countries of the IADB. and the Organizations, Agencies and Institutions related to this topic.

In this sense, the MECODE-CMDA software will be an important tool to provide updated, reliable and timely information that allows for better administration of resources, complementarity of efforts, transparency and reducing response time between member countries and organizations. international. In general terms, this initiative will involve the development of work in the second half of 2024, and the expansion and improvement of the modules over the next year. To do this, the students will dedicate themselves exclusively to the work, under the direction of the team of computer engineers from the Military Institute of Engineering and the supervision of members of the Disaster Cooperation Division.
