Group of Inter-American Humanitarian Demining Monitors in Colombia receives a visit from Representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Brazil

The Group of Inter-American Humanitarian Demining Monitors in Colombia (GMI-CO) received a visit, on May 11, 2023, from two representatives of the Ministry of Defense (MD) of Brazil: Colonel Maurício Barros Guimarães and the Frigate Captain Rafael dos Santos Soares, coordinators of the Employment Section of the Deputy Headquarters of International Operations of the Headquarters of Joint Operations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces. The officers were in Bogotá - Colombia to participate in a series of events related to the 30th anniversary of the support of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) for humanitarian demining in Latin America.

During the visit, the GMI-CO gave a presentation on the main missions carried out by the group in support of the Humanitarian Demining process in Colombia. Since 2006, Brazil has contributed to the IADB by sending soldiers from the Brazilian Navy and Army to join the GMI-CO, whose objective is to provide advice and technical support to the Comprehensive Action Program against Antipersonnel Mines in Colombia, of the Organization of American States.
