In the midst of activities alluding to 30 years of humanitarian demining on the American continent, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), with the support of the General Command of the Military Forces of Colombia, held on May 9 the International Seminar “Thirty years of support from the Inter-American Defense Board for Humanitarian Demining – Results, Lessons Applicable at the International Level and perspectives.”
Conceived to discuss Humanitarian Demining issues at a political and strategic level, the Seminar was held in a hybrid format (in-person and virtual) and was attended by representatives from 18 countries. During the activity, chaired by Brigadier General Porfirio Fuentes Vélez, General Director of the IADB Secretariat, the high level of the presentations and the important participation of military attachés from different countries and a large number of representatives of Organizations of Humanitarian Demining.
Continuing with the activities, a Workshop was held on May 10 aimed at improving demining techniques, tactics and procedures and discussing humanitarian demining issues at an operational and tactical level. The Workshop was characterized by the important presence of the humanitarian demining community in Colombia, in addition to the technical depth of the topics discussed.
