On September 27, the Inter-American Defense Board received a visit from a delegation from the Brazilian Army Command and General Staff School (ECEME).
Composed of 36 students from the Policy, Strategy and Senior Management Course of the Brazilian Army and three students from the International Strategic Studies Course, on a study trip to Washington, DC, the delegation was headed by Colonel Rafael Cunha de Almeida, Chief of the Division of Policy and Strategy of ECEME.
At the Soldier's House, the students were received by Counselor Márcio Rebouças, representative of the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the Organization of American States (OAS); by Brigadier General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes (Mexico), President of the Council of Delegates of the IADB; by Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto (Brazil), Director General of the Secretariat; and by Brigadier General Néstor Zalazar Echauri (Paraguay), vice president of the Council of Delegates, in addition to Brigadier General Giovanni Moretto, head of the Brazilian Representation before the Inter-American Defense Board (RBJID).
Within the agenda planned for the visitors, Councilor Márcio Rebouças gave a conference on the organization, objectives and activities of the OAS, while General Moretto spoke about the responsibilities in charge of the RBJID. Complementing the presentations, Brigadier Flávio spoke about the activities currently being developed within the Inter-American Defense Board, in favor of strengthening confidence and security in the American hemisphere.
Created in 1905, the centenary Command and General Staff School of the Brazilian Army, “Marechal Castello Branco” School, has the mission of “training General Staff officers and high-level advisors, forging leaders and military leaders, producing knowledge and thinking about the Army of the future, contributing to the construction of a defense mentality in Brazilian society, seeking professional competence at a level of excellence.”
