IADB leadership receives the Permanent Observer of Spain before the institution

On January 11, the Inter-American Defense Board received Brigadier General Antonio Esteban López, who serves as Defense Advisor and Hemispheric Security Advisor to the Spanish Representation before the OAS and Permanent Observer before the IADB. He was accompanied on the visit by Dr. Andrés De Castro García, Academic Deputy Director of the Peace, Security and Defense Research Institute of the General Gutiérrez Mellado University of Madrid, Spain.

The objective of the meeting was to establish a broad space for dialogue to better take advantage of the opportunities for academic collaboration in the fields of research and teaching between Spanish universities and the IADB, materializing this approach through the signing and implementation of cooperation agreements.

The collaboration focuses on promoting rapprochement with institutions dedicated to the study of issues related to security and defense, increasing the visibility of the IADB and Spanish academic institutions in the field of multilateralism. Likewise, it is expected that the development of the actions will contribute to the professional development of those who work in the security and defense sectors of the IADB member states.

The meeting took place in the historic facilities of the Casa del Soldado, located in Washington, DC, and was chaired by General Marco Antonio Álvarez Reyes of Mexico, who holds the position of President of the Council of Delegates of the IADB, and Brigadier Flávio Luiz de Oliveira Pinto of Brazil, General Director of the IADB Secretariat.
