On August 8, the Secretariat of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) and the Inter-American Defense College (IADC) held, virtually, the second meeting of the project for the preparation of the Guide to Good Practices in Hemispheric Maritime Security. This initiative, part of the IADB's Maritime Security Program, aims to strengthen the security of hemispheric waters and promote cooperation among member states.
The project involved representatives from 12 countries and various institutions, including the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Naval Telecommunications Network (RITN) and the European Union (EU).

During the meeting, the CID presented the methodology that will be used for the construction of the guide and discussed the next steps of the project. Countries such as Argentina, Chile, Guyana, Ecuador and Brazil made detailed presentations, contributing relevant information and experiences. This guide aims to provide practical and up-to-date guidelines to address challenges such as Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Fishing, drug trafficking and pollution.
The project is a joint effort, with significant support from the IADB member states, and aims to promote a safe and collaborative maritime environment in our hemisphere. The next stage will involve the compilation of information and the creation of a unified glossary, with a new meeting scheduled for September 2024, where a presentation of the research proposal and the sections of the Guide will be made.
